Description: I. A posed group of men of the battalion lying on the grass. Signallers practise semaphore on the parade ground. Stretcher-bearer teams, also on the parade ground, go through the drill of helping casualties. Four battalion boot-repairers at work. The mid-day meal is issued to the men who queue up with their mess tins. Men of the battalion are billeted in a farm and walk up an outside stairway to a hayloft. The mail arrives and the men cluster round to receive parcels. A company marches down a country road in shirtsleeve order. II. Two unrelated scenes have become attached to the end of the film. Recruiting bands march through city streets joined by civilians. Two observers, in a faked close-up, in a balloon basket.
